Established in July 2006 by Executive Order 29, the Governor’s Health Information Technology Council was co-chaired by the Secretary of Health and Human Resources and the Secretary of Technology. The council had the following goals in mind: establish an interoperability framework, encourage public-private partnerships to increase adoption of electronic medical records, encourage vendors and entrepreneurs to build to the national certification standards for Healthcare Information Technology, and identify areas where health information technology can lower health care costs for the Commonwealth as an employer and health insurer.
